Summer seems to be creeping closer. It's brilliantly sunny outside and somehow I'm here in front of the computer. Summer is going to take some adjusting to. It is so refreshing to be able to do some personal work. Personal work is crucial to gaining a refreshed perspective after the completion of a large project, like the senior thesis. I'm just taking some time to do some experimental drawing and designing, it all informs the professional practice. I'd like to get a 'zine on some local shelves over the summer, if you're interested in being a part of my 'zine drop a comment. I want Micron Hero to be a publishing label, getting the work of my friends out there. The focus will be on sketchbook and drawing culture.

Revamp...
I've updated the layout of the blog. Now that school is out I'm hoping to have more time to update the thing for those of you that check here regularly. I'm going to try my best to post every day. Granted deadlines will pop up from time to time, but for the most part my schedule is pretty open, allowing for much blogging time.
I am currently working on illustrations for the Emperors New Clothes. I can't reveal too many details about the project, but it's going to be big. I chose the story because it will allow me a lot of room to draw crazy clothes and off-the-wall patterns. I hope to explore patterns a lot over the next few weeks.
After I finish this illustration gig I will be finalizing my portfolio book and taking it out into the world for the big job hunt. If you're looking for a fulltime designer definitely let me know.

First day...
Graduation day is almost here. I'm looking forward to it more than anything. It's a symbolic day, signaling the melodramatic "first day of the rest of my life." Basically I'm ready to take my portfolio out into this town and look for a good job. I have a few places in mind...
In the meantime, here's a 11x17 page I designed for my C4D portfolio cover page. Our work is going to be shown at the school as well as The Office store on Alberta.

It has been a busy few weeks...
I had a spot of bad luck this afternoon. While running errands out in Beaverton I accidentally left my precious notebook on the roof of the care. I absentmindedly pulled out into Canyon Road to head back into Portland. I didn't realize what had happened until I reached the bank on 23rd and Burnside back in town. I frantically raced back to where I had started. I called Westside Detail, where I was meeting with the owner, Ryan. He graciously retrieved the remains of the book from the street. I can't thank him enough, my notebook is everything. At least it's all here. Once I got back in town for the 2nd time, I bought a new book, can't be without a notebook for more than a minute.
Spring Focus week is over and I have premiered my video project: The Un-Stoppable Binary Bros. I'm developing a website to showcase the video, but if you'd like to see the rough cut leave a comment and I will email you the link.
The image above is an illustration I completed yesterday for the upcoming graduation barbecue for the Communication Design dept. The conceptual direction for the piece is simply barbecue. Hopefully this comes across in the illustration. I can't wait to be graduated.
I was commissioned by PNCA to design a poster for the upcoming evening with the English folk singer and activist Billy Bragg. My goal was to portray Mr. Bragg as a folk troubador and working class hero. I have been listening to his music a great deal while working on this piece. I'm a big fan of his music and message and I can't wait to meet him.
